Yorkshire Water's Huby Water Treatment Works needed a pump to handle Dissolved Air Flotation sludge produced by the water treatment process, and two Bredel SP50 peristaltic pumps were chosen because of their ability to pump air and run dry safely. Yorkshire Water Services supplies water and sewage services to 4.5 million domestic and around 130,000 business customers in the region. It operates 112 water treatment works producing 1.3 billion litres of water every day. Huby Water Treatment Works produces up to 8 megalitres of potable water every day. The presence of air in the DAF sludge had caused many problems for both centrifugal submersible pumps and progressive cavity pumps which became severely damaged leading to increased maintenance, but which causes no problem for the Bredel pump. Gordon Clitheroe, field team leader, Yorkshire Water comments: "The pumps are running on the same hose that was installed over 18 months ago. Yorkshire Water is very happy with its choice of peristaltic pump, which has dramatically improved the process of handling waste sludge." |
